FAQ'S

See some common questions and answers below, or call us at 660-885-3375

  • Why is my Heat Pump Steaming?

Heat pumps have a defrost cycle similar to a refrigerator freezer. It has to defrost or it will become a block of ice due to the moisture in the air outside.

  • A/C or Heat blowing while off?

Is your thermostat set to the fan “ON” position? If so the fan will run continuously regardless of if the heat or cool is off.

  • Dryer is not heating?

Check your breakers, sometimes if a breaker only trips part of the way, you will have one leg of power which may run the display but not the heater. If it is running but not drying well, check the dryer vent and lint screen, if it has become clogged, that can overheat the element and it will cycle off.

  • How far is our service area?

Typically 35-40 miles radius from the shop in Clinton Missouri. There may be exceptions so give us a call to discuss what you have and where you are located.

  • How often do I need to change my filter?

This all really depends on how much Run Time a filter sees. General rule: 1-inch fiberglass throwaway-1 month, 1-inch pleated throwaway- 3 months, 5-inch pleated- 6 months. The electronic air cleaner needs cleaned every 3-6 months.

  • How often do I service my HVAC system?

Depending on what type of system you have we recommend twice/year. Some are once/year. Call and ask about our maintenance agreements!

  • Do Heat Pumps really work in our area?

Yes, they do! That question is a myth. Our area is predominantly an all-electric market. Heat pumps are the majority of what we see in our rural areas. They supply a cooler temperature than a gas furnace, but it is enough to heat a home. Dollar for dollar on utility costs a heat pump can be more efficient than other heat sources.

  • Can I shut off vents to rooms I don’t use?

You can shut of 1 or 2. Most of the time it is not beneficial. If you shut too many off the system operation could be affected or possibly damage your unit. Most systems will consume the same utilities whether vents are closed or not. There is typically no savings and the home can develop hot and cold spots.
